Should You Take Tamiflu If You Have The Flu?

Here’s a scenario.  You feel like crap.  You suspect you have the flu.  You go to doctor.  Doctor says you have the flu.  Doctor prescribes you Tamiflu (Oseltamivir).

Should you take it?

My answer will be NO and here’s why.

Why I Don't Recommend Tamiflu

Tamiflu received FDA approval for the treatment of Influenza A and B in 1999.  Not only does it reduce the symptoms of the flu by only ONE day, it can come with some serious side effects.

In 2006 the FDA issued a warning that those taking Tamiflu (particularly children) “may be at increased risk of self-injury and confusion shortly after taking Tamiflu and should be closely monitored for signs of unusual behavior.”  In 2007 Japan banned the use of Tamiflu in pediatric populations after 12 Japanese children died after taking Tamiflu.

Do This Instead

So….what do you take instead???  ELDERBERRY!!!

elderberry benefits

Elderberry is also known as Sambucus and is a dark purple berry from the European elder tree.

There have been multiples studies and comparisons of Elderberry vs. Tamiflu and Elderberry can reduce the symptoms of the flu by FOUR days (Tamiflu only ONE).

Be careful of Elderberry syrups containing honey and giving it to small children (<1 years), but otherwise it is safe for everyone.
