Flu Shot Day 4: Should I Get The Flu Shot?

If this is the first flu vaccine post you are reading, make sure you check out my previous posts this week to learn more about the flu vaccine!  The next two days posts will be about NATURAL ways to protect yourself from the flu these next few months.

According to the CDC on their website, I quote “an annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce your risk of getting sick with seasonal flu and spreading it to others.”

Is it really? Do you think getting injected with synthetic chemicals in the form of this flu vaccine is the “best way” to reduce sickness?

As with every disease process, it’s about the internal environment that we create imbalances to present themselves, not a flu bug or a miracle shot.

The most “natural” advice I can give you to stay well these next few months (and daily for that matter) is to take care of yourself. Eat right, exercise, get sunshine, WASH YOUR HANDS, get plenty of rest and stay hydrated (more on this later).

Vitamin D Benefits

Today’s natural supplement that has been studied often is Vitamin D. Did you know supplementation of Vitamin D can prevent Influenza A? Vitamin D regulates expression of more than 1000 genes in our body and it switches on genes in our macrophages (scavengers for our immune system) that make antimicrobial peptides that can destroy bacteria AND viruses, unlike antibiotics.

The RDA (recommended daily allowance) for Vitamin D is 400 IU, however, to achieve all of Vitamin D’s benefits, you would have to take 10 times the RDA, upwards of 4000 to 5000 IUs daily.  The majority of Americans are Vitamin D deficient so you may require even more supplementation so contact me and I can get your Vitamin D levels checked!

Stay tune to Friday’s post for more NATURAL ways to prevent the flu.
